Elijah Rising is in the process of launching a massive mobilization effort aimed at getting the English speaking and bilingual Church to accept our God-given mandate to end the slave trade in Spanish-speaking areas of our city. While exact numbers are hard to come by, our field work and intuition leads us to believe that the Cantina sex trade gives Houston critical mass as the number one sex trafficking city in the US. The war against sex trafficking is not only to make it safe for blond haired blue-eyed fifth-grade girls to walk to school, it is also to close the supply routes through Central America and Mexico that provide 14-year-old Latin American girls to cantinas all over the ship channel area. On one recent research trip Elijah Rising staff stood at one intersection in the ship channel area in which there were cantinas on each of the four corners. A quick headcount revealed 50 women for sale – and that was just one intersection in one neighborhood of the second largest shipping port in the US. The urgency to awaken the Spanish-speaking Church to deliver outreach and intervention services could not be more critical. This Sunday night, March 30, 2014, from 7:00pm-7:30pm tune into KKHT 100.7FM “The Word.” Cat French, Adam Chaney, and Lily Lopez will be interviewed by Pastor David Shultz on this very topic.
