The 5818 Story Continued…

Imagine a former building used for sexual exploitation, violence, immorality, and every kind of degradation imaginable, now hosting the presence of God.  That’s precisely what is happening at 5818 SW Frwy in Houston.  The story below is a recent example of just that.

Last Thursday around 4pm a lady pounded angrily on our front door.  Our staff members cautiously opened the door not knowing whether she would be violent.  Immediately she said her soon-to-be ex-husband had frequented Angela Spa, the former brothel in this location.  She proceeded to warn our staff members – who she thought were prostitutes – that they needed to be tested for STDs as her husband had brought them home to her!  Our staff quickly cleared up her misunderstanding and brought her inside.  Once inside they prayed for healing and ministered to her.  She chose to receive Jesus, turn her life around, and release forgiveness to the women and her husband.  Afterwards she declared she felt healing in her body and had never felt peace like that before!  Halelujah!!!  Only the Lord can flip immorality into redemption!

We believe that the Lord is allowing us to have a taste of the kingdom of God advancing, taking ground in the most sexualized-district in the city of Houston.

“Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end…” Isaiah 9:7

On my way to work this morning heading into downtown, I turned to my left and saw the small building that used to be a “brothel’ and noticed the Elijah Rising sign. Before today, many mornings as I would sit in traffic, I would look over at that building and sometimes say a small prayer for the people inside or the men I would see walking inside. At times, it would sometimes make me sad, or anger me….or sometimes scare me. Not scared for myself, but scared for my children who are growing up in this world and will one day be faced with worldy tempations or come across deceiving people who make these kinds of things seem like answers to financial problems for females or that it is socially acceptable to our boys. All I can do is pray that my children will remember that God is the answer to all of our problems and concerns!! I pray that they will always be protected by Him and make the right decisions. So today it made me have hope for our city when I saw Elijah Rising! It is truly amazing what you are doing….Houston needs your organization! Praying for growth for your organization to reach people beyond the City of Houston, the victims, the men, the criminal organizers….
    God Bless!

I found out about Elijah Rising by being ask to work at Sugar Creek Baptist Church through my temp agency. They needed help in the Mission’s Department and that is where I discovered you all! I am so excited to discover this ministry. My husband and I are Pastors at Destiny Church and I would love to partner with you all in whatever we can do. I believe in your vision and would love to get more information about it because this issue is very dear to my heart and I believe in the power of unity, prayer and faith. Congrats to you all on the building and I look forward to meeting you and possibly working with your ministry in the near future.
