Survivor Monologues 2019

We had an incredible turnout for Elijah Rising’s 2019 Annual Gala! 430 guests gathered at the A.D. Players George Theater, and together we were able to raise $225,000 to fight sex trafficking in Houston and provide Restorative Care to women who have survived trafficking.

Here is a quick recap of the evening:

“Survivor Monologues” was created as a one-of-a-kind production to expose the dark world of sex trafficking and also tell stories of bravery and triumph in the midst of great adversity. Elijah Rising partnered with A.D. Players for a dinner and theater event, portraying honest accounts of individuals who have encountered the realities of human trafficking.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and dinner from Churrascos with opening remarks from Elijah Rising Development Director Adam Chaney and Executive Director Micah Gamboa before entering the theater for the monologue performances.

Jake Speck, Executive Director of A.D. Players, welcomed guests to the stunning George Theater. Jake shared about the first time he went on an Elijah Rising Van Tour. He was so moved by the prevalence of trafficking in Houston, that he proposed the idea to host the Elijah Rising Gala and perform monologues for guests.

Guests were moved by powerful monologues performed by actors affiliated with A.D. Players and inspired by real survivors’ stories. Author and playwright Kathy (McGibbon) Givens wrote a portion of the monologues, and Pipeline Collective created others. These powerful stories are from the frontlines of the fight against human trafficking,

Sierra Glover performing “Turn Around” written by Katherine Givens.

The night concluded with a special performance of the song, For The One by Bethel Music performed by Aric & Gigi Nitzberg!
